"Emocje zawsze są prawdziwe, nieprawdziwa może być ich przyczyna. Emocje wzbudzane przez fałszywe przyczyny są równie silne, jak te powodowane przez prawdziwe, dlatego często wyprowadzają człowieka w pole. Trzeba je po prostu przeżyć."
Olga Tokarczuk, Opowiadania bizarne
I totally agree that emotions are allways true, but how would you define a false/true cause (or reason, not sure which translates best to 'przyczyna'). I'm not sure if I can follow there to be honest. :)
Or maybe not 'define' but rather how do you understand a false/true cause/reason?
I think that a false reason is, for example, an overinterpretation?
Exactly - overinterpretation of behavior or our triggers - strong emotions related to the past. Triggers cause strong emotions inadequate to the situation. The main reason is false, because the truth is deep inside us. True causes: deeply hidden fears, fears we are not aware of, repressed fears. Triggers or fears can reveal different situations and trigger certain emotions
Various situations, for example, seemingly innocent ones, can reveal fears, trigger triggers and evoke various emotions, the cause of which lies deeper
Ah I see, I think I understand. I think your explanation with the overinterpretation fits and explains it pretty well. Like the emotions evoked by a overinterpreted situation or certain triggers are of course as real and strong as any other emotion. But the true cause of them is not really the said situation or trigger but the deeper hidden fears which are connected to those triggers. And that again might lead to an overinterpretation and thus those strong emotions.
So the false cause in this case is the 'trigger-situation' while the true cause might be a deeper and/or hidden fear or feeling (?).
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! :)
Exactly as you write :) I also thank you! I like such conversations, they make you think :)
If you ever want to talk about a topic, go ahead :)
I'll do thanks, you too though :) I really appreciate those conversations as well. It's nice to find like-minded people here from around the world. :)
I think the same :) May I ask where you are from?
Of course, I'm from Germany, Berlin. :)
And you are from Poland I assume, right? May I ask which City?
Yes, I live in Poland. I come from a small town an hour away from Łódź (more or less)
I understand that Germany is your homeland? :) I've never been to Berlin, but I'd like to visit the city
I've never been to Lodz, just visited Krakau once, back in school. It was a nice trip, short but nice.
Yes it is, I originally come from a small town next to Berlin and somehow got stuck in this beautiful and terrible city :D.
If you'll ever visit the city and you like to, feel free to let me know, maybe I can reccomend some nice but not so well known sightseeings or so. :) (But of course it's totally fine if you don't no pressure :D)
Łódź is an interesting city that some people love, others hate :) The fact is that the city is becoming more beautiful and very modern. You can enter the museums with your dog! It's cute, isn't it?
Beautiful and terrible? :) I think Berlin and Łódź have something in common :D
What is beautiful and what is terrible?
Thank you very much, I'll be sure to let you know :) If you ever visit Łódź or any other place in Poland, let me know too
Forgive me for my poor English - I hope it is understandable :)
This is indeed pretty cute! Never heard of any museum allowing this. I think in Berlin it is not allowed yet :)
Maybe it's the curse of big cities :D. I really love that berlin is so openminded compared to most other big cities in germany. It is pretty diverse, has awesome subcultural scens and is a melting point for all kind of arts and also science. A pulsating city. Its people are special in their own way, they often seem grumpy but they are usually mostly nice when you talk to them a bit
more.
on the other side it is a big city with all its wrongings nonetheless. loud, stinky, often annoying. A lot of people tend to be reckless in the traffic. And some of the 'blinking' is just superficial.
Thank you to verry much, I'll do :). And you don't need to excuse at all, I think you write pretty good english, I understand you pretty well. :)
Do you have a favorite museum in Lodz, if I may ask?
I think that Łódź is unique when it comes to dogs and museums :)
Subcultural scenes - what do you mean?
I think that every big city has bright and dark sides :)
Łódź is famous for the best ramen. This ramen attracts people from Warsaw to Łódź :D It is also a loud city that can overwhelm but you can't get bored in it :)
The people from Łódź I know are friendly and have a distance to themselves. They can joke about their city :D
What is important - there are many beautiful parks and forests around in the city
What a relief :D I'm glad my English is understandable
I was very impressed by the Museum of Cinematography and EC1 :) EC1 is a huge modern complex. I didn't have time to visit the whole thing but I was in the Comic Book Museum - a great place.
There is a room with old computers from the 90s and you can play Mario, Need for Speed and many more. You can teleport back to your childhood! :D
What are your favorite Museums in Berlin?
Uh Ramen are awesome, though I haven't had some in some years by now. Sounds like I really need to visit Lodz at some time:D
I also totally agree that Parks and Forests are the most important thing for a city! I somehow need my certain amount of natural space.
It's kinda funny once when I worked a few months for the German Archaeological Institute my Boss back then told me that she once had buisiness partners from China (I think Shanghai?) for a visit in Berlin . First they were like 'Well this is your Capital, it is so flat!' And seemed pretty underwhelmed (Since there are no real Skyscrapers here and compared to Shanghai its rather small). But after two days they were really amazed about how 'green' the city is with all its parks and forests and so.
So yes I also think Parks and Forests are really important for a City :)
Also the EC1 seems pretty cool, I just looked it up on the Internet and alone the Planetarium sounds so cool and of course the Comic Museum! :D But also Museum of Cinematography sounds pretty interesting, not sure if there is something comparable here even if there are a lot of Museums around here too.
It would be definitly on my visit list when I'd visit Lodz. :)
My favorite Museums in Berlin, hm its a good question. I really like the 'Naturkundemuseum' (I don't really know how to properly translate this, probably Museum of Nature Science or so?) It's about the History of Planet Earth but also Archaeology, Palaeontology, Geology, Zoology, Astronomy and such. Its been a while since I've been there tho. I also like the Computer Games Museum, I think it's probably similar to the Comic Museum in the EC1, though it's only related to the history of video games
and Computers/Consoles etc.
But there are also a lot of other cool museums around here like the New Museum or the Pergamon Museum on the Island of Museums, which both are historical/archaological Museums.
Regarding your question about the Subculture in Berlin; there's for example a verry versatile music (but art in general) scene (e.g. electro/techno which Berlin most probably is most known for, but there's also a Gothic and a smaller Psychedelic Rock Scene and lots more) I think Berlin has also a strong LGBTQ+ scene, and of course the general club scene. All in all its pretty versatile/diverse which is nice, I doesn't get boring here as well, thats for sure xD.
Sorry for the typos, there are probably a lot of them in my texts. It's sometimes harder than expected writing with the phone xD
I encourage you to visit Ato Ramen in Łódź :)
I need parks and forests to feel good.
Work at the Archaeological Institute? It sounds great!
Honestly, I wouldn't like to live in a city with a lot of skyscrapers like New York.
I like space, sunsets and sunrises in the sky and lots of trees and quiet places. I like it when cities have beautiful architecture, such as historic tenement houses.
Łódź has a rich history when it comes to filmography.
Łódź used to be the film capital of Poland. Maybe you even watched a movie shot in Łódź. I read that David Lynch fell in love with Łódź during the Camerimage festiwal :)
Studio Se-ma-for created Moomins (1977–1982) and many other fairy tales.
I checked this museum on the Internet, it looks beautiful :))
The dinosaur skeleton is impressive!
I have a weakness for dinosaurs, haha :D
I will add this museum to my list of places to visit :)
The Computer Games Museum sounds great :)
I think Berlin has a lot of interesting museums on the map!
Are you interested in archeology?
Cool, I love electronic music/techno/psychedelic rock ;)
I understand that Berlin is a tolerant city? :)
It's okay, my English is so poor that I can't complain about your typos :D
I will devinitely keep Ato Ramen in mind, when I'll visit Lodz, their menu also looks pretty good. :)
And I totally feel that you wouldn't want to live in such big cities as New York, I couldn't live there either. Even Berlin seems to big for me at times, to dense, to crowded and to grey with to few quiet places. But yeh thats also a reason why I earlier wrote beautiful and terrible at the same time (at least for me). xD
Absolutely old cities with historical city cores and houses are awesome! I assume there are a lot still in Lodz and the surrounding smaller towns?
I didn't know that Lodz is such an important City regarding Filmography, this is pretty cool, especially that the Moomins were created there :D. But to be honest I don't really now much about Filmography in general, I just like movies :D. But I can imagine that Lynch was amazed by Lodz from what I now know about it. :)
Regarding the dinosaur in the Naturkundemuseum, you mean the big one right, the Brachyosaurus (? not sure if it is written right, probably not). I think they also have at leas one other Skeletton there (an Alosaurus called 'Tristan' if I remember right, I'm not sure though). Yes dinosaurs are fascinating, It's weird to imagine that those giant creatures once wandered the same gound as we do now, and that Chickens are their small cousins now. :D
Evolution is a wonderfull thing, If I think about it.
Cool, then you might like the music scene and events in Berlin :)
But if you're ever visiting Berlin, I'd reccomend to avoid the Berghain, chances are good, that you're waiting in the queue for several hours to get in just to be refused and send away by the bouncer. :D
at least what I heard of it ('ve never been my self there yet)
And yea I'd say Berlin is a pretty tolerant city at least compared to most other big cities I know so far. But I guess that's needed for a melting pot of so much different cultures, religions and ways of life in general.
Oh and yes you could say so that I'm interested in archaologiy, studied it quite a long time just to graduate and ending up doing something completely different xD. But I guess that's what lifes up to sometimes, leading you ways you'd never really imagined going. xD
Well that keeps it interesting though. :D
Btw. I really think your english is quite good, so now worries, really :)
How about you, what are you interested in mostly, if I may ask that frankly? :) I guess filmography might be one thing, right? I mean beside good music and literature? What's your favorite movie, Lost in Translation?
(Generally spoken, of course it's totally fine if you'd rather not want to answer some or specific questions, just in case I might be a bit to nosy :))
I totally understand what you mean when you say beautiful and terrible. I think that every big city can be noisy, gray and crowded but also beautiful and interesting.
If you could choose: village or city?
Or maybe a small town? :)
There are many old and gray tenement houses in Łódź. Now they are renovating many of them. Some of them are really beautiful and it's sad to see them decay.
Some of the tenement houses are being demolished because they are not suitable for renovation.
I think that if they repaint most of the tenement houses, the city will be really nice
There is no city in Poland with a similar scale of tenement houses. Their greatest advantage is amazing decorations in various styles.
You can also see Swiss-style villas in Łódź for example, Teodor Steigert's summer house and Ludwik Meyer's villa. Unfortunately, they are in poor technical condition.
There are also beautiful red brick buildings in the city (renovated former factories) because Łódź was an industrial city.
Yes, I mean Brachiosaurus :D
I've heard about Berghain :D Thank you for the warning :))
It's fascinating that there are so many different subcultures, religions and ways of life in Berlin.
Yesterday I listened to an interesting podcast in which a Polish woman living in Berlin talks about this city.
I had no idea about many things, but I am even more interested in this city, it must have a truly unique atmosphere :)
Berlin must be really tolerant and diverse, I like that.
Apparently there is no such "rat race", people are more relaxed.
Of course, these are just her observations, everyone probably has different experiences.
Do you feel safe in this city? Although it may be a stupid question :)
Do you like partying? :D
I hope that what you are currently doing makes you happy (this is for the comment about studies and work) :)
You're not being nosy, don't worry :)
I think I'm an open person. You can ask me anything.
We are strangers to each other, so I think that makes it easier to talk
I have many favorite movies - Lost in Translation is one of them
This movie is special to me.
Maybe because I know exactly how the characters feel.
Other movies I really like: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Before Sunrise. There are many other movies, but it's hard to list them all. What is your favorite movie?
Honestly, I have a lot of different interests
Apart from movies, literature and music I like art - architecture, painting, photography. I like going to the theater. I love animals and nature. I'm a dog mom :D I like bike and roller skates. I love walks in the forest and in the park. I like eating, especially Asian cuisine xD I am also interested in other cultures :) I like the sea and mountains. These are just some of them :))
What are your interests and hobbies?
I read something during the last days that Lodz was an important citiy for the textile industry in the past. I actually have a faible for old left and decayed places and buildings. They allways have such a gloomy but beautiful vibes. especially when nature is slowly taking back its place. And from what I see on the Interwebs the Villa of Teodor Steigert looks jsut awesome.
It's a pity when such old buildings also 'just' normal tenement houses are demolished just 'cause they're not suitable for renovation. In my oppinion they should be put under urban heritage construction and renovated, no matter the cost. they add so much character and soul to a city.
Teodor Steigert and Ludwik Meyer have been prominent citizens of Lodz? I actually don't know them but find it interesting that their surnames are german?
Here in Berlin they tend to renovate or demolish old buildings e.g. with war damages. I think they should leave the damages like old bullet holes in house facades the way they are as a reminder of what ideologically fanatism tends to lead to.
Just a few weeks ago there was a nice old building demolished just around the corner from the place I'm living. And there used to be such a cool old and rusty advertisement sign for an old and long gone pharmacy, like they used to have them back in the 70s/80s (maybe even earlier) I think. It looked so out of time, almost had some visual poetry in it. :D
I think it's the same with those old industrial brick buildings, they bring so much charme to a city. There is one in the south east of berlin for example that was a long time not used and left empty. now they there opened a small club I think. I think this is a good usage for such buildings way much better than just destroying them, as long as there is no risk of them to collapse of course. :)
And to your question if I like partying, if I'm at it right now already :)
It depends. I'm not really a clubbing or partying guy. Of course I have been to several clubs in the past here in berlin but that was before Corona. And then it were also more smaller clubs and I haven't done that often. I rather like going to concerts or sitting in a bar with friends. I usually don't feel that comfortable among to much people, though that also depends on the circumstances.
Also my dancing skills are more comparable with a stranded fish than the gracefull playe of schools of fish underwater xD
I'm curious what the woman said about her live in Berlin. I think the polish comunity in Berlin is quite big. Once someone even rang on my doorbell asked if I am Mr. ... (forgive me, but I don't feel so comfortable to share my surname here in the open comment section) and asked me if I speak polish, because my surname is a polish one. My guess is that he was maybe looking for new arrived polish speaking persons in my area for introducing them to the city?
But I really do not know what that was about. :D
But it's funny I'm asked from time to time if I speak polish because of my name, but unfortunately I do not. Though it is a reason why I kinda want to learn it, or at least try to currently. But to be honest. it is as challenging as it sounds nice. :D
But sorry I drift away. Yes i think so too that berlin has a unique athmosphere, but I also think that every biger town has that, no matter if Lodz, Warsaw, Paris or London etc. But yes Berlin is pretty openminded and tolerant as well as it seems gumpy at times (at least for me). xD Sometimes I somehow feel like Berlin is the Grumpy cat of europes capitals. But yeah the people here are usually pretty relaxed, Though I'm not totally sure about the 'rat race', what exactly does she mean with that?
And now it is definitively not a stupid question if I feel save here. :)
In short I do. I think Berlin is quite a save city. Though it is a big city with I think more than 4 million partly very diverse inhabitans so of course there are also conflicts and criminal hot spots. But it depends also on the location and at which time of the day you are on your way and which way you take maybe.
But I say this as a man, I can absolutely understand and believe that the experience from a womans view might probably differ from that and that certainly is absolutely justified. As a man I have no Idea what women experienced and experience in their dayly life. So I can definitily imagine and understand that the feeling for savetiness differs there.
In general I'd say if you avoid dark and empty alleys or ways and trust your senses you are save in the city.
Though I also have the subjective feeling that there are more and more people on the streets with psychologically issues and or drug issues that can behave aggressive at times. And that of course can feel uncomfortable even if statistically viewed not that much happens.
Oh and regarding the Berghain, I'm not sure anymore if I mentioned it but I've not been there my self for clubbing so I just heard and red about the queueing storries and how hard it is to get inside the Berghain and that people somtime even stand in the queue for like 9(!) hours. I've just been there once for a Concert, so there has not been a party at that time.
But I think I'm drifting away again, sorry. :S
To your question if I'd rather wanna live in a village, small town or the city; well this is a really hard one. xD
I don't really know, sometimes I wanna get out of the city entirely and other times I quite like living in the city or at least near it. I think best would be maybe the suburb or the outer edge of the city which makes it possible to just stumble into the nature and breath real air and dive into real forests (not just parks).
And still beeing able to go to concerts or into the cinema/theatre or so.
or other cultural events.
Okay, I'm glad that you think I'm not nosy :)
And I really appreciate your openness, thanks for that :)
Lost in translation really is a great movie, one of the few that stuck to my mind. I realls like its visual language and the art of how the story is told and of course the story itself. But I also really Like Bill and Scarlet they are just awesome in the movie. Those two lost or maybe rather stranded souls.
Before Sunrise is also a pretty good movie though I've never watched the other two movies before sunset and I forgot what the name of the third one was or was before Sunset the third one?
I've never watched 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' yet though. But regarding all the references here at loforo it definitively seems to be worth a shot. :)
But you're absolutely right asking for a favorite movie is quite a challenging question xD.
There are so many good movies. As I mentioned I really like Lost in Translation but also most of the Jarmush's movies I've seen until now, especially Only lovers left alive and Paterson and of course many more.
So you're interested in all the beautiful things in live. That sounds great. :)
Since when do you roller skate? This sounds pretty cool. :)
I already thought that you might have adopted a dog, because of your profile picture :) Is it actually her/him on the picture if I may ask? And I think so too, the sea and mountains are really awesome, but nature and animals in general, though it's quite some time ago since I've been hiking in the alps, do you go/like hiking?
Regarding my interests I can totally or at least mostly relate to the ones you mention. I've never roller skated though but like biking too it's not that much fun in the city traffic, so I don't really do it right now also I need new tires. xD
I also love animals, am actually a cat dad (lol it even rhymes).
I love music, videogames, poetry/literature, photography, movies, science, other cultures and am somewhat interested in politics. Also I like going to concerts, doing 'sports' (basically home workouts and thinking about starting with aikido again but then somehow finding reasons not to at least the moment xD).
As you'd probably noticed I also love nature. But yeah that's mostly it in a nutshell.
And I'm really sorry for the text wall here that somehow escalated quickly xD.
If you like we could also switch to telegram or whatsapp or email or so, for continuing the conversation. Might make it a bit easier to respond to certain topics/aspects or so. But we can also stay here, or quit here for now (though I really enjoy the conversation as you probably can tell :D), whatever you feel comfortable with.
It's nice to read such interesting walls of text :) If you want to continue the conversation, I don't see any obstacles to switching to email or another communicator :) I think it will be more convenient. We can go to email or discord if you have? It's already a late hour, so I'll reply to messages tomorrow :)
Thank you, I think the same about your messages :)
Discord is fine for me. And of course take your time, no hurries. :)
I can't use Discord that well yet. Is it enough if I give you my nickname? If so, then: mountaingirl95
I think I'll reply to your messages on discord :)
No worries, me neither, I'm allways struggeling with the interface :D. Just took some time for me to remember that they changed the thing with the numbers. so yeah I think your Nickname might be enough. My username is 'johnny.tam' btw. just in case that something shouldn't work somehow :)
And yes, as I said no worries, no hurries :)
I also have to look how that worked again with adding friends on discord, I think their interface is not so intuitive somehow, at least on the phone.
Okay, I just sent you an invitation via discord, hope it worked :)
Everything works, I accepted the invitation. Thanks :))
